Seriously.

Follow this procedure.

1. Dress well, but not rich. Don't pull the sexy/desperate thing.
2. Ask the receptionist if there is a standard application.
3. Fill out the application if there is one.
4. Leave your resume regardless.
5. Wait 3 days.
6. Call the office and ask if they have had time to review it.
7. Wait 3 more days.
8. Dress better than #1.
9. Go into the office again and ask about the application.
10. Ask to speak to the "Director of Personnel". There may not be one (probably not), but you will look very professional for this question.
11. Wait about a week and repeat steps 8-11.

If you do this to about 10 offices simultaneously, you will be hired in a relatively short time. Good Luck

I would not recommend this strategy for every industry but for a dental assistants position, you can learn alot by making an in person presentation. Because most Dental Assistants work in a Dentists Office, a visit to the office to drop off your resume will allow you to do some "environmental market comparisons" of your ideal work environment.

I am assuming that you are interested in presenting to this field in a entry to mid level position, if that is true, the strategy of showing up in person to deliver your resume allows you to present your best self. They are looking for someone with a pleasant customer service ethic, and you can show yourself as someone with initaitive in person better than by email. The other benefit is that you can be more selective about those you want to follow up with!

I would call first to introduce myself. Then, I would take the resume in person. Emails are so easy to pass over or delete when you are unfamiliar with the sender. Inquire with the receptionist if the office is seeking an assistant so you know which companies are worth following up with. If while you are there, they tell you they are not hiring, ask to leave your resume in case a position opens.

It depends how they have advertised the job opening. Usually they are specific by saying email or snail mail. Many employers today allow the resume to be emailed. If you are not sure, call them.

Hi, You should do whatever the advertisement says to do. If they want it in person, bring it in. If they want an e-mail, send it that way. Good luck to you in your search.
