Hi there,

Im planning a trip to Vietnam, flying into HCMC on Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) of this year, and have about 2 weeks in the country. I understand it's quite crowded at this time of the year. Is it worth booking a rigid itinerary now, to ensure I have accomodation and travel sorted for the whole trip when I arrive, or will I still be able to find transport & accomodation fairly easily when Im there?

Im planning on going along the coast from HCMC, then back down to the Mekong Delta.

Cheers.

Christmas is almost as big a holiday as Tet is in Vietnam (ironic considering barely 5% of Viets are Christian). That in mind, you're going to hit some big crowds with the tribes and tribulations that comes with it.

You get the best deals on accommodations when you walk into a hotel and haggle on the spot. It's a good idea that you reserve hotel rooms at the major locations that you are intending to visit due to the massive amount of travelers during that time of the year. Unfortunately, only the larger hotels have online booking. The vast majority of smaller hotels don't have Web sites let alone online booking.

A good option to consider is to find a reputable travel agency in HCMC to book your hotels before you wander from HCMC.

Good luck, and hope to see you there!

I'm not trying to discourage u but it is very busy and crowded at the time u will travel. crime is also on the rise there with pick pockets so b careful. u will b tired and 2 weeks will not seem like enough time for all u want 2 do. since u have a itinerary that will help with your time but make sure u have your accommodations, and travel air tight so there will b no problems. have fun cheers

I think Xmas in VN is just the right thing, especially in the South.

However, if you also plan to go North, like to Hanoi prepare for some cold and bring along sweater etc. Temperatures in the Northern "winter" can drop to around 10 degrees C.
