The philosopher, George Santyana once said that "those who fail to learn the lessons of the past are condemned to repeat them."

So we must always consider the past to learn what we can to improve ourselves and our world. But to continually fixate about the past, after your've learned what can be learned is neurotic, like trying to drink from an empty glass. It's a preoccupation of poeple locked in the past -- and yeah, I guess you'd have to say, "losers."

Examine the past -- learn from it everything you can -- then let it go and move on. THAT's a recipe for WINNING!

I dwell on the past and I am not a loser. I just happened to have a really horrible life and I think back to see if I could have changed anything. That doesn't make me a loser.

I certainly think so. While it's alright to analyze the past so as to learn from your mistakes, dwelling on the couldawouldashouldas is a loser's mentality that will only drag you down in the present and future.

It's a matter of moderation. If you dwell on something mild that happened 10 years ago, then yes, you're a loser. If it happened a week or a year ago, maybe not. If it was extremely intense, dwelling is understandable. Only "losers" call people losers.

People who kept dwelling on the past made themselves as losers. They can't carry on with their lives as they kept bringing up the past and they can't see the future ahead of them. In the end, they are blind to many windows of opportunities that might be clearly in front of them. They are not losers due to branding or pigeon hole-ing. They are losers as they allow themselves to lose out to present opportunities.

I wouldn't use the term, "losers". People who dwell in the past and beat themselves up over a bunch of "what ifs" aren't what I would consider losers.

_Dwell_ on the past? Yes, I'd agree with that. Well, losers and old people, which aren't necessarily the same thing.

But there's certainly nothing wrong with reminiscing about the past. And _learning_ from the past is a key part of attaining wisdom.
