Try looking at used classifieds in your area, both online and in papers. Fish groups always sell tanks for $1/gallon. I never buy retail anymore... too expensive. My daily routine is search all the classifieds in my area and look used tanks and cages.

They have links for most cities in north america. You can also do a web search for your the nearest big city (i.e. Boston pet classifieds, etc.)
