The border to the south runs 2,000 miles. It is very difficult to secure that border, as evidenced by the inability to do that thus far. To the north, where I live, I can honestly say that the Canadians seem to do a good job but there are areas that are not patrolled at all. I saw one area where the border was just across an open road, no security there. Are we more secure today? Maybe a bit, how much is impossible to evaluate.

Yes,and No.It is a question that never get the right answer from the authority and the illegal people keep coming and staying. I myself not sure about the safety and there were 2000 tunnels that were dug along the border line in order to smuggle drugs to the United States.Only solution I can see is that the government need to work with the Businessmen who hire illegals and fine the people who hire them.Well the U.S.govenment can let the illegals have the quest worker program. Then the workers can return home after 9 months so 12 million people who took benefit from the American people should go home. Then everyone wins.

I think it's worse. There are more corrupt people guarding the borders than there were in 2001, just as there are more corrupt agents in every branch of the US government. When the guys in charge are not held accountable no one else is either.

Not really. Much more needs to be done to secure our borders, and unfortunately, immigration laws are too hot a topic during this election year for most politicians to take it on. We need real change, and until it happens, our borders will not be secure.

Marginally, maybe. There is a fine line between freedom and safety. We should do a better job in our ports and on our borders, but we will never be totally safe from a determined terrorist organization unless we are able to change their minds, or kill them.
