I have a 5spd dakota and it seems to grind whenever i shift into reverse and i dont know why? all other gears are fine, just reverse...any ideas?

The sychronizer is bad. I wouldn't worry about it. Just let the primary gear slow down before putting it into reverse. To do this, depress the clutch and weight 5-10 seconds. This gives the primary time to slow down to a near stop. Since your final is already stopped (given the truck isn't moving) then the gears will mesh. If they don't, let off of the brake and let it roll while applying pressure on the shifter. It will slip into place without grinding. Good luck.

The reason it grinds is the shaft is rotating forward when you shift to reverse it goes the other way. Try waiting 5 or 10 seconds before engaging with the clutch pressed down and should not grind. If doesn't wait a little longer.

i believe b/c the reverse gears are strait cut gears. why exactly that is
i don't know. if its the same tranny as my jeep then its fine just double clutch when shifting. i into reverse and it should reduce it

Because it was made in America. I have the same 5 sp transmission on my 1979 Toyota truck ( 300,000 + miles ) as when I bought it and it is humming along just fine.

Reverse gear doesn't have a synchronizer...

because you are a bad driver and dont use the clutch properly .
if it is difficult you may have to double the clutch .
i doubt if you do that.

clutch or slave gear needs adjustment
