Check around the time the Spanish explorers reached Florida within a decade or so of Columbus' landing in the New World. The native Americans were usually too unruly to train as porters and slaves, and the Spaniards started the practice of displacing Black People to do the desired menial work. Many of the Black populations and racial mixtures in the Caribbean started this way. No doubt there were at least a few Black or mixed bearers or slaves among the first landings of the explorers. B.

Gee, I didn't know there was that much history in science.

They arrived with the first European settlers in 1776.

Slavery had already been established in Europe for almost 3 centuries when the Dutch began trading in African slaves.

There would have been blacks taken to America prior to 1776 but they would have been more likely as ships crew and not as settlers. On this basis it's possible that the earliest blacks arrived as 'visitors' from 1492 onwards on European voyages that landed on many parts of the east coast.

It looks like the first African Americans were brought to Florida in the late 1500's. They were both free and slaves. Read the below article for more information.

I have to ask, though, why this is science homework?
