I have had yorkies myself, two of them. The chances that you can keep them together on the floor..are very, very slim. A Yorkie is bred to get into holes and bring out animals like rats, mice etc. I had a yorkie for years and years and if he saw ANYTHING..ANYWHERE that he wanted to chase (cats, busses, kids, anyone on a bike, birds) he was OFF. And I mean hi speed, no chance he is stopping if you scream, threaten...nothing. He also killed one of my birds :( Yorkies are super great, but you can't take the chase and grab out of them. I would TRY putting the rats in a cage and slowly moving them towards the floor... IN THE CAGE and watch your york. See if his eyes glaze over, if he jumps at them, really gets worked up. Then if you see no danger signs at all, hold one and introduce again, very slowly. Good luck.

You'll have to keep them seperated. It's the yorkie's instinct to kill the rat, And the rat's instinct to run from the dog. you are fighting a losing battle!!

the Yorkshire terrier was bred to kill rats amongst other things , terrier comes from the Latin word Terra meaning earth . there were ratting contests where terriers would be timed on how many hundred rats they could kill.
you have no chance get rid of the rat

do you put your rat in a ball to roll around in? If you do, put them in the same room with the rat in the ball. And see how they react. Tell the dog its okay. Very often so they get used to each other. That's wat i do with my dogs and hamster.

LOL... please, that is just plain old stupid! just leave them seperate, there is no reason to introduce them, one is supposed to live in a cage and the other is supposed to live outside of a cage, deal with it! no point in changing the way things are meant to be.
