Is your water source processed with chloromine? Some people have problems with it even though it is the most commonly used water disinfectant used (throughout the country.)
Chloromine is a combination of chlorine and ammonia.

Sounds like you're getting a dose of chlorine gas-maybe your municipal water purveyor has been been sanitizing the lines,and the chlorine is not flushed out yet.
