We have thicker skin. No joke. We do. All of the days we spend in the wide open spaces has allowed us to develop a natural outdoor appearance. Only the couch potatoes have the thin skin that makes them a natural target for them.

In addition to the answers given (animal grease and certain herbs), they kept campfires in lodges - the smoke deters mosquitos.

they got used 2 it... they got adapted to it... i don't think they couldda did anything back then.
