I've been a computer tech / network administrator for 10 years. I've realized that medical research is where I REALLY want to be, working on truly significant problems (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc). My concern is that although I find chemistry and biology to be interesting in a hobbyist sort of way, I don't (yet) have a true, burning passion for either one in particular. So if I don't end up doing medical research, and end up having to get a regular job with either a chemistry or biology degree, what types of jobs are there? I'm trying to convince myself that any fallback plan is viable from an interest perspective.

Chemistry is mostly lab work, biology opens door to mostly anything with life and it's studies... Animals, viruses, plants, etc... you'd probably find more "going on the field" jobs with biology

Chemists generally wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

Biologists have to remember to wash their hands BEFORE going to the bathroom!
