well , if your a first time player , i recommend final fantasy vii (7). it has a great story line and twists and characters etc that introduce you to the wonderful world of final fantasy. i started out with final fantasy x-2 which was a bad idea coz it was a seqel game. but yeah final fanatsy is absolutely amaing , i recommend playing all the games really. ff7 is actually not the best graphics ( they're crap) but its story line will have you hungry for more !!!!! ok hope that helped and welcome to the world of final fantasy !!!!!! x x x

it really depends on what systems you have. a lot of people say 7, because it was a lot of people's first one.
however, given the option, one should play 4 (for GBA) first, it is so much better than seven it's not funny. people get upset that a character dies in seven, but 6 of your characters in 4 die. it was nothing new.
also, four was an actual rpg, vs seven, eight, and ten, which don't really sum up to good rpg standards.
i think it would be a bad idea to start with 1 or 2. 1 has no storyline (though brian clevinger made a storyline in comic form - http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=010302 ) 2 will leave you with a bad impression. III has yet to be released, but i hear decent things. IV is great. V is ok, and VI is supposedly ranked as the best FF ever.

well the first ff that i played was 10 and it left a great impression then i bought 7 and x-2 and am currently waiting for 12. And its good with the ff series because every story is different so you dont have to find the first few to get it.

If you want to start from the beginning, the first two games are available on either the GBA or the DS with the 3rd coming soon.
