1st question: I am considering swapping my 4.3 v6 out of my 1990 S-10 blazer for a SB 305. Should I do it or is it more pain than pleasure?

2nd: I will NOT do it myself, so has anyone done it before and how much does it cost (approximately)?

3rd: Anyone know anybody in San Francisco bay area that is reputable to do this swap?

Don't waste your money on a 305, you will not be gaining much over your 4.3, if your going to do it, go with a 350 and it will make it worthwhile.

Your only gaining 43 cubic inches (4.3 to 4.99 liter), sounds like the pain won't equal the pleasure if you are doing it for more power, make sure its a bolt-in swap or it will mean expensive modifications. When I was young and foolish. I had a nice 64 nova with a 6 cyl in it and wanting more power asked a garage to put a 350 V8 in it. I never got that car back because the bill finally got to high for me to pay. So they confiscated the car and a mechanic got it. The motor was to bug for the car anyway.

Take a visit to some of the street machine shows in the Alameda County area. See some of the swaps for yourself. Talk to the owners. For articles on how to do a swap, refer to magazines like Hot Rod, Motor Tread, Street Thunder, etc.

If you don't have the money to burn and the S10 is not a cream puff, do not squander your money.

you can buy a conversion kit that will relocate the engine mounts so u can just drop in a v8...however to make it as easy as possible...use a carburated motor...that only requires power to the ignition...and the tranny (4l60) that is in the truck now will work just fine...just route the TCC wire to a switch so you can lock up overdrive when cruisning to save gas.since the computer will no longer be used...but i do think jet makes a chip the drops inline to fool the computer...if u use the TBI engine...you may also need electric cooling fans...possibly some fire wall hammering...and stiffer front springs....u could really do this yourself and save a bundle...you would be charged atleast 1000 to have this done by a shop.....

As Mad Dog in Cannonball Run (who was rather infamous for antics in a Chevy truck himself) once said, if you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly. I highly recommend going with a 350 or larger if you're going to go to all that trouble. Same amount of effort, close to the same price, and a lot more gain.

If you don't mind having to replace the rear tires every month or two, it's fine. They just don't get any traction. You'll want to go with some really wide tires and it will hold. Good luck.

i put a 68 dodge 440 into a 50 Studebaker so yes its possible

I would plan on spending about 1500 if you have every thing you need . But most shops dont like customers bringing there own parts .
