so im getting my tonsils taken out and im just wondering what the heck they are there for?

well they are causing me to get sick, and they are the reason i have sleep apnea right now.

They do have a purpose. Your tonsils are part of the lymphatic system.
They act as a "storage" place when you have a virus or bacterial infection. That is the reason they often swell when you have a cold. The bacteria holds there until your white blood cells come in and do their thing.
Same is true for your appendix.
If you have them removed, other systems in your body will have to work harder.

Tonsils are a part of your filtering system. They can get a real sick.strep in mine. I was 15 before they took out mine. Good Luck

Well im actually studying dentistry, and the point on having tonsils is to help fight bad pageons, bacteria and sickness

You have few organs in the body that have no purpose. However, they will only be taken out if they pose a problem. Your appendix is another.

They are suppose to catch the germs that go through your mouth. Since they're taking them out, you're going to get sick alot more often.

theyre sposed to prevent infection... but other defenses take over after theyre taken out.
