Just begining my car shopping. I currently have a Dodge Stratus and want another mid-size sedan. I've been fairly happy w/ the Stratus but wanting to try something else. So far I'm leaning towards the Impala. Just curious if people have had good experiences with the new ones. Thanks.

I appreciate personal opinions. However, I am a serious car buyer and would appreciate serious experienced answers rather than opinion. Thanks

the impala is a great all around car...the engine is very reliable with plenty of power. the tranny is good...has a low failure rate. is an attractive car in my opinion but with a nice set of rims has alot of potential....my g/f mom owns one and i have yet to here her say can you fix this for me...being the family mechanic that i gotta be...i would consider the impala...all the city police officers in town drive them....however if your looking for some even better power...get the SS

You'll get fifty different answers from fifty different people on this kind of question. I've been in a new Impala and I am actually impressed with the latest styling. That being said I'm a Ford Taurus fanatic because I've been in a crash with one and loved the way I came out of it. (not in bits and pieces)
The best thing to do is go around to many different car lots and look at many different cars. This will give you a better idea at what you really want.

Impala's are nice, but being an american car, have terrible resale values, as I'm sure you'll learn with your Stratus. Chevrolets are also notorious for having little mechanical failures once they have a couple years under their belt. Have you checked out a Toyota Camry yet? I used to own one prior to purchasing a minivan and absolutely loved it. You'll actually pay about the same price as an Impala, but have a higher quality vehicle.

They must be rugged and dependable cars, a number of police deparments and cities have adopted the Impala as their official sedan. Most of the cars in the New Orleans Police Department fleet are now 2005 chevy Impalas. The Louisana State Police is now also using Impalas.

they're great, like the other person said, they're rugged enough to be used as police cars, and they are very reliable and powerful. also get great gas mileage. they are not cheaply made at all, the quality is great. i hate people who make rash generalizations about all american cars. they have very closed minds. i'd def. get one if you're looking at that type of car. and for the guy who said foreign will always be better and that's a fact...he obviously doesn't know much about cars. GM tied honda in the last reliability test by J.D. Powers...and toyota has fallen way down because of all their recalls.

I own a 2004 Impala. Have put 45000 km on it in two years, including two trips to Florida, and it has been a dream. Great gas mileage, lots of space, great trunk space, comfortable, good warranty. I say you can't go wrong. I also own a Civic and the Implala is the far better car.

They are great cars. I've ridden in the last style of them, and I hear the new ones are even quite a bit better. New or used, they are good reliable cars.

Its a very good car and Gm's best selling vehicle so that should tell you something about it, check out the trunk space in it, you can probably put that stratus in there, when I looked at the car I was very impressed, GM has come a long way in the last three or four years in fit and finish and quality, check one out and drive it.
