Can you make a car payment? I'd trade in the Mercury, put another grand down, and make small payments on a really cheap new car like a Hyundai or Kia. I have a Hyundai now and it runs great!

HEY! don't feel so down!
that REALLY IS do-able!
look at eBay motors, you can search by location
also try a google search for classified ad's in your area
a forum search could also lead you in the right direction. I am sure there is plenty of vehicle forums.
good luck!
previously owned cars are the way to go, the newer they are the cheaper they are made!

sounds like trading horses. this old horse is the one I know and is broken in. That horse over in the corral I don't know anything about is the one I want. Take my advice have a mechanic you trust to look the other horse over first Before you finalize the purchase. Say I cannot buy this car untill I can go to my mechanics shop so he can look at it. If they have something to hide they will say no.

Avoid eBay like the plague...unless the cars there are local so you can go drive them and have a mechanic check them out.
Find a decent locally owned Toyota or Honda....take it to a mechanic you trust to have it checked out...if you aren't mechanical yourself.
But, I've got to ask, if your car is OK...and you can't afford a major upgrade right now....why are you trading?

Check your local paper and ask around. You can usually find personal vehicles in decent shape being sold by the owner instead of through a dealer and will probably be cheaper.

if you need a nother car you can take that 2500 and go to a police auction they have realy good deals for cars arer your best bet is to find out how much the blue book value of your car is and trade it in a cardealership could tell you the blue book value it a book wich they judge trade in prices with i would advise you to just trade it in for a nother used car
