yes it is i asked my midwife as i had 2 when i was pregnant they were great pets. BUT after having a baby you really dont have time to give the rats the care time and attention they need as you are so busy with and tired from the baby! I rehomed mine to a very good home when i was 5 months prenant. You dont realise till you have one how busy a baby keeps you!

Yeah sure is, i had rats too! I found i was pregnant and took mine to the vets just to check her over she was fine, and so continued, when my son was born i just kept her checked up regualry at the vets for mites etc nd never posed a risk to my son. Sadly she got a growth when he was small and we had to put her down...the vet said this was possibly due to stress which may of been triggerd by the new baby. But please dont worry, as long as you pay the same attention to the rats as you always did youll be fine :)

I shouldn't see any problem as long as they are kept clean.
I'm 24 weeks pregnant, we have two dogs and a cat and I don't intend to get rid of them!
I was born into a house with pets, and so was my boyfriend and neither of us had any problems being "exposed" to pets at such a young age. Our families are all great animal lovers and so are we! I'd hate to have lived without pets.
If anything it was good for us to live around animals from a yong age as so many people I know who were born into obsessively clean, pet-free household are allergic to loads of things, as their bodies didn't get the chance to accustom themselves to dust, pet hair and other "normal" household things. Growing up in a normal house with pets given you some immunity I beleive.

rats carry mites but as long as they are kept away and clean and don't bite i don't know why it wouldn't be kind of like my husband had a ball python and fed it mice, and the mice ended up giving the snake mites.
