My friend Joseph is in the marching band with me and he's is our section leader for the trumpet section. We have 4 seniors (including myself and him) that are on the trumpet line and he picks the laziest senior to help him out with the show music for the younger ones. Him and the rest of the trumpet members make my ideas look like **** and that I have no idea what i'm talking about. I know more music that all of them put together but I guess no one sees that. Another thing about outr band, our band director is pretty crooked as well, this year, last year and this year, he's chosen the dullest characters for our drum major and I think he knows it too. Mentally, these characters could think through the formation and see how it was done, but personality-wise they don't put spirit into the show. I would turn around and tell someone about it that was in the band, but they wouldn't listen to me. I guess any activity, job, or anything you do will have some kind of scandalous situations.

Our band Director will always preach about us being a unity and trying to become one, but I think he's missing the definition about what unity is. Joseph is a cool dude but when he's around his (trumpet section) he's a completely different person. I'd like to hear your imput on this question.

The simplest answer to your question is that everyone in band want to do what THEY think is the BEST for the band. Unfortunately, everyone has a different view of how it should work. However, very few people act out what they want. So you end up with a lot of opinions and very few actions. And when those actions happen, everyone else (who did not do anything about it to begin with) feel negative and start to voice their opinions.

The best way to rid yourself the cycle of negativity is to stop focusing on it. Focus, instead, on doing your best on the field and in the music room. Once you have mastered this, help those around you. But be careful, only help them if the ask you for it OR if they are willing to listen to you. This way no matter what drama occurs, you know that you yourself did your best to make the best of the situation.

Drama in band is pretty much unavoidable, the wiser person learns that the best way to deal with it is to make sure that you and those around you are doing their job as well as they can. Believe me, Im in college marching band and the amount of drama here would put any high school cheerleading line to shame.

Typically if the members don't like each other, it creates a lot of tension within the ranks, which leads to playing favorites and people not working together for the good of the band.
Perfect example, last year everybody hated our 2 (senior) section leaders, thus not much was accomplished throughout the year. But this year, everybody loves our new section leaders, so we all work together flawlessly and are able to easily reach our goals without any malice towards each other

It relies upon. maximum colleges will knock of any actual health direction criteria if you're in marching band. So, if so, i might want to assert "certain". If the marching band is only a one hour an afternoon, flow play at football video games then probable "no". Drum and Bugle Corps, "heck certain". A aggressive extreme college marching band with more beneficial than an hour an afternoon practice, "certain". not a interest yet athletic.

You have the misfortune of learning a life lesson early. Some people never grow up. They play favorites for a variety of stupid reasons and don't show respect when it's deserved.

Hold your head high and just be the best you can be. Some people will notice the imbalance, and it will make you the winner for being above playing that stupid game.

Those that do notice will reward you when you least expect it.
