Liberals are extremely paranoid people. At least the ones I've met.

"liberals" are people who generally see the bigger picture. If they are concerned that the government is tapping the phones of innocent people, it is not because they are paranoid that meaningless details of their lives will be made public. They are concerned that the rights and freedoms of citizens are being eroded... That the goverment is making it harder for individuals to operate as they wish, privately, without being monitored.

A true democracy honours the rights of it's citizens to free and equal enjoyment of all legal activities. If we are being monitored for our own "safety" it will only be the beginning of further losses of freedom, perhaps paving the way for a universal identity card, after that perhaps a small jump to a digitally implanted card and then...? The rhetoric for a digital, implanted card is already being bandied about in Australia (less identity theft, won't get lost, can be used to identify medical histories and bodies etc), and from there it's not a big leap to tracking systems (make sure people are safe, that they don't go into forbidden zones at airports etc, ensure that criminals or mental patients, or children, or elderly can be located if they are missing etc).

Every little erosion of privacy opens up the possibility of further, extreme controls. The more we accept these controls, the more they will tighten.

Apart from anything else, tapping phones is not the way to stop terrorism. There are many countries in the "West" which honour freedom and democracy, but they need not fear bombs or tap phones, why do you think that might be?

Uncle sam doesn't. That is correct. But Uncle sam isn't the one tapping our phones. Security agencies, ran by private interests are.

You don't understand the implications of all this.

THE BILL OF RIGHTS IS SPECIFICALLY TO PROTECT US FROM THE GOVERNMENT.

By ignoring the bill of rights you trade cave dwelling terrorists with crappily made bombs for a group of super rich, organized criminals with the most hi-tech technology to date. Nuclear weapons...The whole U.S. Military at their command.

Would you rather be thrown into a civilian protection unit (Concentration camp.) treated like dirt...Most likely dieing anyway.

Or would you rather be free and take the risk that a terrorist might attack.

Even though there is mounting evidence that the government perpetrated 911.

Read up on the federal reserve.

Learn about how the income tax amendment to the constitution was never ratified, and is thus illegal.

Do a little research about how your country is actually ran....You trust the same kind of people that Germany's people trusted during the Holocaust.

You are being the same kind of person that trusted Stalin..

Seriously, terror is political, so it's governmental... Think...Think...Think. Damn.

Example: If you get a government official who is mad at you because lets say you stole his girlfriend, then they might abuse their power and illegally wire tap you in the name of a terror investigation.

Do you not beleive that government officials sometimes act unethically? Well if their actions are properly decided in a court of law, and there is a warrant then we can worry less about false accusations. Due process of law does not make a government liberal. It is quite conservative to make sure you have your bases covered when operating.

Paranoid is thinking everyone is out to get you. Not just muslims on planes.

That's because as a republican you are use to giving up other peoples freedom,so its easy for you and the rest of the con sheep to accept domestic spying and phone tapping.I have nothing to hide and I'm certainly not paranoid, but the government has no right to indiscriminately listen to private conversations ,it seems the judge that found that illegal today felt the same way.

You are retarded and naive. That's the oldest and slippery slope argument in the world. If you don't have anything to hide, why don't you want them to listen? Because they have no d**n business snooping in on my calls w/out probable cause and/or a warrant. This rhetoric comes from the same retards who spew "defending freedom" every 2 seconds.

You're willing to let them do whatever they please. Well, I'm not.

Look bub-- can I listen in on your conversations? I think you wouldn't like that. Our constituion says we have the right to be free from illegal search and seizure. There are mechanisms for the gov to LEGALLY tap into phone calls and other things. Let them follow the rules.

Besides, who knows if they will record something not illegal, but maybe embarassing and use it against people.

Oh my God! Who causes more damage a corrupt government or the sheep who believe them?

So we just keep giving up freedom by freedom to be free?

Attitudes like this are real scary!

NIXON is why I care... sorry I think about things other than myself?

and everyone is paranoid... you don't tap phones unless you are... and all the "all media/universities/scientists are liberal" idea is blatant paranoia...

and one last thing... if the police/CIA/FBI/whoever are so incompetent that they can't catch crooks legally (as defined by the courts, and there are reasons for the rules)... then we're all way past screwed...

I agree. So many people today take their freedom for granted. Nobody every considers that there is a price to pay for living in the greatest country in the world. Freedom is NOT free. There are those who mean to do us harm, and to call that paranoia is absurd. I don't believe that liberals are paranoid, just oblivious to the true nature of Islamo-fascism.

P.S. Look how fast the "name-calling" comes out. Speaks volumes.

Do you know how many innocent men and women have been sent to prison who once thought like you do? Oh, I never did anything wrong so the government won't come after me. WRONG!
And no one has the right to infringe upon my civil rights, privacy being one of those!

Soooo, you really think those are the only two alternatives - tap your phone or we all die in a plane crash?
