In the United States, magazines are becoming more and more important as a way of keeping well-informed. The mainstream media (MSN), like television networks, big-city newspapers, and popular magazines (such as Time, Newsweek, US News), cannot be trusted because they are controlled by corporations with political agendas usually biased toward economic conservatism. Furthermore, to appeal to a mass audience, all of these media give far too much attention to celebrities, entertainment, and sensationalism (the crime of the day!).
Bloggers are a welcome relief from these closed sources of information, but there are so many that it is impossible to keep up with all of them. Most of them are also biased, though their biases are usually openly stated or clearly apparent, but most of their writers do not have the support needed to devote the time required for in-depth reports.
So independent magazines fill the gap. (Most of them are also online, but maintain their independence because of the revenue from subscriptions and advertising in the print versions.)
Here are the ones I find informative and, therefore, subscribe to and read regularly. My favorites are Orion (non-political but strong on nature and the environment), Mother Jones, and Utne. The political one that I find most useful is still Nation, but I balance it with New Republic and American Conservative. The Economist is a British publication, but stronger on most US issues than most of the American MSN. As a free-thinking Christian, I like Sojourners, which refuses to let Christianity be narrowly defined in terms of abortion, creationism, and homosexual marriage (those right-wing shibboleths!). I balance it with Christian Century, which I always scan but rarely read.
Most of these are also online, but OK, let's be honest: I still like the feel of printed materials in my hand. I like taking them with me where the laptop is not convenient (like doctors' offices, automobiles, and the john!). And a well designed magazine appeals to the eye as well as the mind and imagination.

The Watchtower and Awake! are the first and second most widely circulated religious magazines in the world.
They are available from Jehovah's Witnesses at no charge. A selection of articles is available at their official website:

For a little bit of everything, Playboy can't be beat. I'm a straight girl but spend my potty time checking out hubby's back issues -- Playboy covers politics, cooking, current events, entertainment, fashion, technology, oh and if you're into hot naked girls, theres a couple of those too.
Bon Appetit is my other favorite.

Your question may be too broad. That all depends on your interests and reading style. For you I would suggest comic books. Perhaps you could make your question more specific? What are you interested? What do you spend most of your time doing?
