Robertd - re: your comment "ill remember the 8-0 lead in the 86 series against the mets that he blew "...

You need to have your memory banks checked.

Ryan pitched against the Mets twice in that series, won by the Mets in six games.

In game two, he pitched 5 innings and gave up 5 runs, all earned. The Mets ended up winning that game 5-1.

In the fifth game, won by the Mets 2-1 in 12 innings (on Gary Carter's single in the bottom of the 12th), Ryan pitched 9 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits... he walked 1 and struck out 12. Darryl Strawberry homered in the 5th inning for the only run Ryan gave up that day. (That was also the Mets' first hit of the day)

The only other Mets hit off Ryan was a one out, 7th inning single by Keith Hernandez.

Nobody blew an 8-0 lead in that series...in fact, no team scored as many as 8 runs in any game.

Game 1: Astros 1 Mets 0
Game 2: Mets 5 Astros 1
Game 3:Mets 6 Astros 5
Game 4: Astros 3 Mets 1
Game 5:Mets 2 Astros 1 (12 innings)
Game 6:Mets 7 Astros 6 (16 innings)

Pros: 7 no hitters, 100 mph fastball, 5k Ks, pummeled Robin Ventura while giving up 15 years to him, incredible longevity, part of best pitching staff in RBI Baseball with Mike Scott.

Cons: On-off pitcher, can't count on him every start, lots of walks to go with Ks.

Pros: Fastball, Curve, Ks, 7 no hitters

Cons: Walks, would walk a batter to preserve a no hitter.

great fastball knee buckling curve.. but with a 500 record he should of won alot more. the argument that he played on bad teams is weak he played on damn good ones.. ill remember the 8-0 lead in the 86 series against the mets that he blew and the robin ventura pummeling that sent him to the hall of fame.... makes me wonder what he would of done against the broomsticks and handlebar mushtaches of the turn of the century... but again with his stuff he should of won twice as many games as he lost like seaver, maddox, martinez. 13 one hitters...7 nohitters...

pros ; a lot of gaudy numbers
cons;despite his gaudy numbers he was barely over .500 and his ERA was over 3.00 and given the choice I would take Seaver over Ryan any day
