I was watching the learning channel on urban legends and there was a person who bought a chevy malibu that was able to get 200 mpg. They were driving it home from a lot that was about1800 miles from thier home and only used up 1/2 tank. When they got up in the morning, there were two men taking something from under the hood of the vehicle. There was a device on it that was able to make it have 200 mpg.He said he saw them take it and run to thier cars and take off.It was an experimental car(the car was not an experiment, but what was under the hood) and the dealer sold them the wrong car. When he started his car up after he seen the men tampering with it, the car started right up.And now the car gets regular gas mileage. What are your thoughts on this?

I saw this episode a while back...conspiracy theorists abound. I think it is a myth.

You were watching a program on Urban Legends. That should tell you that this particularly story never happened. In fact, this story is a variation on a theme. Check out www.snopes.com for information on any urban legend you can think of that's out there. Especially the ones that you get in your email inbox. I found this story at the site below. From the Home Page, I clicked on Autos, then Better Business, then found the story under the link "carburetor that gets 200 mpg." This is not a true story.

Happy reading!

First off, 1800 miles @ 200mpg= 9 gals of gas. The Chevy Malibu has a 13 gallon tank. Half a tank would be 6.5 gallons. So the math thing doesnt work.

I keep hearing stories like this. . but there is very little proof that such a car really did (or does) get that kind of gas mileage.
