Sex....a mans sperm can help thin the cervix. It's true, gross, but true. Nipple stimulation, it helps cause contractions of the uterus and walking. Good Luck I know I have read some answers that say its not true....my OB told me these things. They work for some people and are the safest and a natural way of doing it

First of all, I would not try any at home labor induction if you're not full term. And even if you are, many of the home remedies will not work for you simply because your body and the baby aren't ready yet. They may cause contractions but you probably won't go into labor.
So chances are good you'll just have a sleepless night or exhausting day with nothing but false labor contractions (that is, even if you get the contractions started).
The castor oil should be used sparingly if at all because it can act like a major enema and give you the runs really bad.
You can drink raspberry leaf tea or take raspberry leaf tablets after 37 weeks to tone the uterus and encourage the braxton-hicks contractions. You can also walk alot.
The things like intercourse, castor oil, nipple stimulation, etc. can actually be quite helpful when you are ALREADY in labor and it has stalled or stopped. I'm in that boat right now. I went into labor yesterday evening and here I am 24 hours later still in labor but only dilated to 3 cm. The nipple stimulation keeps my contractions coming regularly, as does moving about frequently.

I don't think Castor Oil will help you go into labor, though it may make you ill. The only sure way to go into labor is to let nature take its course, and that is the safest way as well. Walking does help bring the baby down. And Sex may help to bring it on as well. If you are at 40 weeks or more these methods are safe. If you are not I would advise you to wait. My last two pregnancies were premature births, the risk to the baby is not worth inducing labor too soon. Congratulations and Good Luck.

Good Heavens don't believe that old wives' tale! Taking castor oil will just make you sick, and it can't possibly be good for the baby! If you're close to your delivery date, the best thing you can do for yourself is to take nice long walks. Sometimes that can help bring on labor. Even if it doesn't, the exercise will help you be stronger during your labor.
Don't worry too much about when your labor will start. When the baby is ready, he'll let you know!

Castor oil??? What wives' tale have you been listening to?? and WHY are you trying to go into labor? Go the the doctor!! Talk it over with him. Are you past the due date, what?? You will be risking the life of your child if you do something deliberate to induce labor. Don't.

A chill pill? In all seriousness, if your body were ready to be in labor, it would be.
But if you really can't stand the wait any longer, nipple stimulation and intercourse are both reported to help. One of the drugs we use to induce labor is actually pig semen, and most of the others are synthetic reproductions of various pituitary hormones that your body produces with nipple stimulation.
Here's an article about inducing labor naturally... maybe it'll help. It says it's Part 2.. I have no idea where Part 1 is. I'm sure if I took the time to search their site, I'd find it easily.

yuck, no. all the things that you have ever heard about making yourself go into labor faster are old wives tales. no driving on really bumpy roads or train tracks. no castor oil. sex doesn't even help because while semen contains the hormone that causes labor, there isn't enough in it to matter. sorry.

Walking, swimming, and sex can all help.
Also: nutmeg. Nutmeg facilitates contractions of the uterus.
So does caffine.
Put some cinnamon and nutmeg into your coffee now for labor, and remember that fact after the baby's here.
When you're tired and smelling like baby poo all the time, you may desire your husband, but be too tired to feel intimate. The same solution will give you a little pick-me-up and put you in the mood to embrace your femininity, and your husband. ;)

That's an old wives tale. Go ahead, take the castor oil. It won't be the baby coming out, trust me.
Babies come when they are ready, not one minute before. Be patient, it will be worth the wait.
Congratulations Mom!

I rubbed my cervix in a circular motion with my fingers and went into labor the next day. I've been told doctors do this to their patients to induce labor.
