Words change meaning over time. Homosexuals are called gay because straights started calling them that and later they started calling it themselves to reclaim the word. Homosexuals are not screaming mad, a small minority might be though but a lot of homophobes are.

I'm not screaming mad, but I'm proud to be gay(happy and homosexual)! Doofus meant a silly person back in the day. My, how the English language has changed!

Originally gay was used as a derogatory word for homosexual men -- because so many homosexual men were happy in what was considered an unseemly way -- always being upbeat and gentle and caring. The gay community adopted the word that was being used to insult them and used it themselves, thus becoming, in fact, the gay community.

Hope that helps.

Answer your own question by attending any event where these so called gays congregate. Something happens when that spirit possesses more then one person at a time. Those vessels seem to talk different and they seem to act different when in a crowd. One term to title that action is Gay. Also other nick names for that spirit are, sissy, queer, light in the tennis shoes, fag, and homosexual to name a few. Once again if you look close at the group you will see why certain people give nicknames like that. Also alcohol has a effect on that spirit and it appears to me to change with the number of drinks.

It all started interior the 70s. even if the time period comes into use at previous due 60s. it truly is getting used as a code for authors to differentiate themselves between the gay or not. because the be conscious 'gay' is too harsh and can want to create a situation, the be conscious 'gay' is getting used as a code.
