I totally agree that gays should marry. The government is more jacked up than they're willing to admit and think they at least got to show that they can control something. They say they are protecting the sanctity of marriage, but these days people are marrying for all the wrong reasons anyways. So what's the deal? I mean, people get married so they can chase each other around naked with fly swatters!!!!!!!! WTF IS UP?!!! But they control someone's love for another so keep your head up, dude. Besides, the "god said so" thing, you condemn people for being gay, cuz "god said they shouldn't be" making them feel like crap, and you've broken God's commandments, too. I know you have. Cuz everyone has. Go ahead and flame me, I don't care, I'm just speaking my mind, as twisted as it is.

It doesn't matter what religions might say...Our government isn't supposed to be biased because of a religous or cultural norm. Married heterosexual couples are given rights that should be allowed to same sex couples as well. Don't call it marriage if you don't want to let that be left up to the churches to decide. However the government should not give out priveledges to one group and deny another group those same priveledges based on race, sex, or orientation. It's a civil rights issue and if the we set up rules of separation of church and state it should be for all situations not just those that agree with the general Christian belief.
As for some of the other answers posted on here... Just because a same sex couple cannot reproduce together does not have any bearing on whether or not they should be able to marry. There are plenty of straight couples that can't reproduce either as well many that can and neglect their children. So your argument is completely invalid.
Also, just because the average male same sex relationship might not be long lived doesnt mean you can ignore the right to be married to those that do want it to work. And lesbians are homosexuals too and can sustain lasting relationships. The illusion that striaght relationships last longer (which I'm willing to argue they don't) shouldn't matter. For those that are willing to get married they should be allowed to do so just because heterosexual are alowed to enjoy that same privillege. Don't shake a fist at the promiscuity of some individuals in the gay community, when it comes down to it, you're just jealous of our liberation.
Anyways, if two people completely love each other, or if they just want to enjoy the rights of being married they should be allowed to do so whether they are homosexual or not.

I am from the UK and on the 21st December last year gays were allowed to be married. Its not called marriage as that term is a religious term. But its a civil partnership. Gays have the same rights as hetero couples.
I am gay and got married on the 21st December to my boyfriend of 12 years. We are very happy and were the first to do it in our city ever. I really do not see that two people who want to show their love together shouldn't be married. the fact is gays will be gay and together if marriage is legal or not, it shouldn't bother anyone else apart from their Friends and their family.
Why the bible/god keeps getting brought into it. I am not religious and have nothing against anyone who follows a Faith. However when religion spreads hate , then i do not agree with it.
Love is an amazing thing and should be celebrated no matter what gender the people are.

The gay marriage fight is really a battle between two groups of religious denominations - Christian and other in both cases. That battle is being missed by the media, and I believe that the battle threatens democracy in America.
One of the reasons for the Revolution, in which ancestors of mine fought -- was to establish freedom of religion in the new nation. Now, we are throwing that away, because contrary to what those on the Right would like you to think, this is not a battle between "people of faith" and "atheists" or some such -- this is a battle between two groups of people of faith, using the government to establish one sides views -- the EXACT THING that the anti-establishmentarian clause of the Constitution is there to prevent.
Of course no one should "make" those whose faiths oppose gay marriage perform such marriages, and no one ever would. So ministers from the Southern Baptists and Assemblies of God and Ultra-Orthodox Jews and Fundamentalist Muslims should never be asked to perform gay marriages, and certainly not forced to.
On the other hand, why should faith groups that support gay marriage -- such as the United Church of Christ, the Unitarian/Universalist Society, the North American Spiritualist Church, Reform Judaism, and the Correllian Tradition of Wicca -- all recognized Churches and 501c3s be barred from practicing their religious faith, which says it is ok to marry same sex couples?
The first group of faith groups is realistically using the government to prevent the second group of faith groups from practicing what they believe. The founders tried to prevent this, for the stability of the country. It doesn't matter that everyone "thinks" they are right and others are wrong -- it matters that we are plural as a society and the government should recognize everyone's ceremonies the same -- which means that gay marriages committed by churches and faith groups that believe in gay marriages, should be honored by the government regardless of what groups that don't like it say.
Everyone's beliefs can be honored, thus preserving the values that my 12 times removed Great Grandfather died for -- but not if we allow one side to legislate away the rights of the other side.
And that's what I think.

Reynolds Jones

A very interesting question....Equal Protection under the law should grant this right to us.
Christian right wings believe that the sancity of marriage is at stake if you allow same-sexed marriages or civil unions. I would like to find out how many of these people that are against it has either:
1. Had Pre-marital Sex
2. Had a Child out of wedlock
3. Has had more than one partner
4. Has had more than one partner at one time.
5. Has had sex other than for reasons of pro-creation.
6. Has ever masterbated.
7. Has used any form of sex toys or products to use as sex toys.
8. Has ever been divorced or seperated.
If YES has been answered to any of the eight response (not limited to those eight) then they also violated the sancity of marriage. Or to think that sex is for Pro-creation uses only.
Why is the government against it? Besides being ran by people who believe the prior about the sanctity of marriage, who knows. They would actually make more money off from the taxes by allowing same-sex couples to marry because of the "marriage tax." By combining the household's income and only allowing one amount (which is lower than two single amounts living together) to be taken out, the government is given more in taxes.
My partner and I live together and pay for everything together. On our taxes however, we are able to claim as single and keep more money for ourselves. Like many same-sexed couples we would like the option on whether we could get married. That is a choice that we should be allowed to make, not have government officials telling us how to run our lives.

LOL! ARE YOU ASKING FOR A DEBATE, OR JUST A BEAT DOWN.
I'm over this topic. I'm not going to preach the gospel, or preach the political rhetoric. I'm going to state facts.
Its true everyone are people. People should marry, but due to homophobia, fear, and most importantly the nature of the gay lifestyle, people say no.
Being that you are gay, look around you, the average gay male is committed to a person how long?
The average gay male, sticks to one man for how long?
The average gay male that is trying to truly change the way things are how many?
The facts are, gay males truly don't want to be married, because the day those rings get on and the sex is tired, the day they will be outta that relationship and let the feathers fly.
BY THE WAY, DROP GAY [ ITS THE WRONG DENOTATION FOR THE WORD ], if you want to be addressed correctly and taken seriously the term really is HOMOSEXUAL.
Get your terms right. I'm not for homosexuals to marry, because lik heterosexuals the statistics would only rise. The reason most homosexual relationships do not work. We have two alpha-males, that want to be dominant, I do not care care if you are top or bottom, there is always some form of dominating quality, no matter how, or where you "Stick".
Homosexuals have to prove they deserve the right to marry, by being able to hold a relationship longer than 2 months. Its not bigotry, its not heinous, its not me being anti-homosexual, its spitting fact and fact is; homosexuals that marry, will end in a more rapid divorce than ever before.

because George Bush is a homophobic *******. he just won't understand that you are good people too, and you deserve the same rights as other people. it is unconstitutional to deny rights to gays, just because of their preferences. and people compare gays to blacks, because being black is not a matter of choice, just like being gay. i condemn anyone who made a homophobic remark, and i don't care what any of you think, because the majority of us think gay marriage should be allowed, and that's what matters the most. i will keep fighting for EVERYONE'S rights until they have been granted, no matter how long it takes, because in the end, we will eventually win. we always win, just like the women's suffrage. meanwhile though, you can help by volunteering and signing petitions. i think the more straight people are for gay rights, the more the government will realize that it is widely accepted. that should help.

It's an abomination! Until gay people can create an offspring with their OWN DNA. Then maybe they will be allowed to marry.
But that's gonna happen until hell freezes over, till the cows come home, or until donkey's can fly. In other case that's never gonna happen.
