"This is probably the hardest question any goth could try and answer, one may as well ask 'what is society?' as it has so many facets it defies any definitive explanation.
Goth in its simplest form, is a subculture. A group of people who feel comfortable within each others company. There is no specific thing that defines what you need to do or be to fit into the goth scene (except of course the implied black clothing). People in the goth scene all have different musical tastes, follow different religions, have different occupations, hobbies, and fashion sense." There is more on the site....




This is the best answer I have found and agree with.... Ive been labeled as Goth but I dont label myself Goth.

Now days...that they like dark ambiant music, wearing black, and painting their faces like 16th century french actors.

Some of them just like the look and clothing of the period.

And some dress that way because they are trying to fit in.

They are people who listen to hard rock, like the idea of vampires, wear a lot of black, write macabre poetry, usually are angst ridden teens who take themselves WAY too seriously.

They mean they are mopey little pale rich white kids whose parents never made them follow any rules or do chores (IMO).
