there are a total of 18 animals,some chickens,some sheep,and some are cows;the total number of legs is 10 times more than 3 times the legs.how many of them are chickens?if you can help me i would rate best answer!!

'The total number of legs is 10 times more than 3 times the number of heads'

Let
C = # of chickens
NC = # of non chickens (cows and sheep)

C + NC = 18 = H (The number of heads)

Which means that NC = 18 - C

Since chickens have 2 legs and non-chickens have 4

L = 2C + 4NC (Where L is the # of legs)
L = 2C + 4(18-C) = 72 - 2C


So 3L = 10H

Thus 3L = 10H = 10*18 = 180

So 3(72 - 2C) = 180

So (72 - 2C) = 60

So 2C = 12
So C = 6 (There are 6 chickens)

That means we have 12 non-chickens; giving us

L = 60
H = 18
and notice H * 10 = 3 * L
