It means that when you said something you honestly believed it to be the case but later found out it was wrong. Although it was a lie you had no intention to give flase information it was therefore an honest lie.

Well it's usually called a little white lie. It means that you bend the truth so as not to hurt anyone's feelings. Such as if someone asks you if you like their new haircut and you think it's the ugliest thing you've ever seen, you say "it's nice and different" instead of saying "if I were you I would wear a hat until it grows out." Get the idea?

a lie is a lie... whether white, straight and yes, honest LIE.... they are all still considered a lie...
truthfully, there is no such thing as an honest lie. it still covers the truth, and man... most often than not, we all are guilty of hiding behind it for fear of hurting those who are dear to us. but we do it cause we have to (though we're not suppose to)....
ps a question similar to this has been asked.... but i'm just glad to contribute a little view for your sake...

A lie that is told to be nice rather than to make someone feel bad. Ex) Your hair looks cute.((when it really looks like a blind person cut it.))

I think it means you told someone what you believed to be true, but later found out was not. So you lied to them, but you didn't intend to.
