I realize that this probably differs among restaurants, but in your experience/knowledge, how many tables are in the average busboy's section?

it does depend a lot on the place, but anywhere from 4-50

When I worked at Denny's our busser had an entire section which was roughly 11 or 12 tables. (our Denny's had 3 sections, sometimes 4, we usually had 2 bussers) But if we were shorthanded, the busser had to cover other sections too. I was a hostess and ended up bussing way too often.

If it is a small restaurant they may only have one busser on duty at a time, so you would have to clear the whole restaurant.

AS YOU'VE SAID ...IT DEPENDS UPON THE REST.

BUT...THERE COULD BE ANYWHERE FOR ONLY A FEW...[2 OR 3]...TO THE ENTIRE REST...PLUS.. IT ALL DEPENDS ON IF EVERY ONE SHOWED UP FOR WORK...AND ...IF THE SERVERS ARE "PITCHIN' " IN....AND ALSO...UPON WHAT TIME OF THE DAY IT IS...AND WHAT DAY...[NIGHT] OF THE WEEK IT IS....AND HOW FAST THE TABLES "ACTUALLY" TURN-OVER...AND...IF THE "BUS-PERSON" IS ANT GOOD AND IF "THEY'RE" PAYIN' ATTENTION TO HOW WELL THE DINNING ROOM IS MOVING..[OR NOT MOVING...ie: PEOPLE ARE HANGING OUT AFTER THEY HAVE FINISHED THEIR MEAL]...PLUS IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE "TYPE" OF REST. IT HAPPENS TO BE....IF IT IS A FAST "TURN-OVER" KIND OF PLACE...THERE WILL PROBABLY BE MORE "BUS-PEOPLE"
...COMPARED TO A MORE SOPHISTICATED TYPE OF EATERY...THAT COULD BE A SLOWER MOVING GUEST...THAT WISHES TO TALK AND "NURSE" A DRINK OR TWO AFTER THEY HAVE ENDED THEIR MEAL...
ACTUALLY THERE ARE A BUNCH OF APPLICABLE REASONS THAT WILL ACCOUNT FOR..."HOW MANY"....BUS-
PEOPLE ARE NORMAL FOR A.."PARTICULAR"..RESTAURANT

THERE IS ACTUALLY NO.."AVERAGE"...ALL THE ABOVE .."DO"... APPLY....

i have worked in places where we didnt have assigned sections, if we saw a table that needed attention, we took care of it. i have also worked in places where there was 1 busser for the whole place and upwards of 40 tables or more.
