Sounds like it is overfilled. Drain out all of the oil and refill to the correct level. I wouldn't think you have damaged anything, just pushed the oil out of the top when there wasn't any room left in the crankcase.

Wow, these guys are brilliant.....OK, is this a 2 cycle engine? Do you have to mix the fuel? If that be the case, they won't require oil in the crankcase. 4 cycle Kawasaki mower engine? Where out of the top was the oil flowing? There is a blow-off tube that goes from the crank case to the intake. It is a crankcase vent. If you overfill, then it will force it's way into the carb. You should drain 1/2 quart out and check the level. Good luck.

take the plug out of the bottom, drain the oil out, replace the plug and put fresh oil in to the proper level. the dip stick has a mark on it to indicate what is the right level. as long as you have not passed oil past the rings you have not damaged the engine. remove the spark plug and pull the starter, if no oil comes out you should be good to go. put it back together and try to start it. the engine may smoke for a short while but that won't continue.

sounds more like you over filled it with oil lol. To much oil will not blow it up, But will make a big mess lol.
Just drain all the oil out of it and start over lol. Most push mowers take only about 3/4 of a quart of oil from empty to full. Riding mowers may take the whole quart. Sence you have a 52 inch cutter on yours then i would say put one full quart in it only then check level on dip stick.

you didn't say exactly what the engine did when this happened. try draining all the oil, clean off the excess oil on the engine. re-fill oil to max mark on the dipstick, try and run the engine in idle and see what happens.

you probably put too much oil in, engine is probably ruined. take it to a small engine repair shop or just call them and see what they say.
