Have you guys noticed that most christian music sucks? Nothing against the religion, but Id say a good 98% of the bands suck. Why do you think that is?

That's a very valid question.
I think the problem isn't the artists as much as the industry....
The Christian music industry is predicated on airplay on Christian radio stations, most of which are funded by donation. This leads Christian radio program directors to lean HEAVILY on "positive, encouraging" music - in essence, music that will make people want to donate to the station.
While there are plenty of Christ-following artists out there doing their thing and making music about real life, relationships, pain, confusion, etc. and music that may even push stylistic envelopes, there's no way the average "born-again" soccer mom would be willing to pay for it. Therefore, they wouldn't get airplay, therefore they wouldn't get a record deal with a Christian label, therefore they're forced to either drop the "Christian" distinction and just make the music they're supposed to and hope to crack into the mainstream industry, or they get sunny and clean-cut and sell "Christian" records.

Never mind the fact that a type of music can't believe in Christ and therefore be "Christian" ;-)

but that's just me.

Ha ha ha because it does. Because the demographic that a lot of music is made for is probably not yours. I think stuff can be good - although a lot of Christian (pop) music seems to have similar styles and production values? A major criticism I have of some fairly stereotypically bad Christian music is that it is really over-produced and not neccessarily rough around the edges.

They're trying to prove that they can do it too. Trying to with out all the skank tactics and money flashing. 'Be in the world not of it' or something like that. Shouldn't christian attempts be way better because the Divine Creator is inside and behind that person and so is His creativity.
Check out Toby Mac if you're looking for a good rep. I like his earler solo stuff better than 'Diverse City'

I think most people in Christian bands wouldn't pigeon hole themselves as being Christian artists. They're just musicians who have failed at the music game and decided to use their christianity as a short cut to make music.

In short, they are sub par in every way.
