Listen to and try to emulate the "Best", for example:
Aretha Franklin, Dinah Washington, Etta James, Ruth Brown, Mavis Staples, Minnie Riperton, Patti LaBelle, LaVern Baker, Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack, Mary Wells, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Dionne Warwick, Anita Baker, Denise Lasalle, Martha Reeves, Bonnie Pointer, Millie Jackson, Big Mama Thornton, Donna Summer, Toni Braxton, Nancy Wilson, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Denise Williams, June Pointer, Stephanie Mills, Brenda Holloway, Alicia Keys, Sugar Pie DeSanto, and Beyonce Knowles to name just a few.
And for every one that I just named I'm positive I'm leaving out another three or four.
