Sushi with raw fish is NOT okay! But there are many kinds of vegetarian maki and also some kinds of sushi are with cooked fish. Those are okay. (try to avoid the smoked fish too, though!)

NO...for lots of reasons...

#1 Any large predatory fish contain dangerously high levels of mercury...that can cause birth defects...

#2 Your system is way more sensitive than normal and eating raw things leaves you wide open for ingesting bacteria that can make you and your unborn baby sick.

So...Skip the Raw sushi completely and if you still must have sushi during your pregnancy...stick to the cooked items in limited quantities and only from a reputable sushi restaurant. I ate shrimp tempura rolls in my pregnancy about once every few weeks...just because I was craving them...but you want to make sure you are careful about how much sea food you put into your body.

Congratulations by the way...

My doctor told me as long as it is from a reputable and clean sushi place it is safe to eat sushi (what do people in Japan do??)

In the end I broke down and ate sushi because I craved it so much and my daughter is happy and healthy.

You can eat sushi, as seafood is very good for you. It is recommended you watch what types you get due to mercury levels.

I have had sushi several times during my pregnancy and everything is fine. I usually stick with the cooked fish or shellfish. (Shrimp Tempura roll and Philly roll)

It's not something to eat all the time, but occassionally is not that bad for you. Make wise choices and things will be fine.

It is not a good idea to eat sushi while pregnant. The reason is that raw fish can be dangerous at any time due to lysteria and salmonella poisoning... but if you were to get sick from raw fish while pregnant it could seriously harm your baby.

you want to avoid fish and seafood during pregnancy. they contain high levels of mercury which is poisonous and causes mental retardation in fetuses.

You can get a chart from your doctor of the fish you can eat, and how often you can eat it.

Besidse the murcury, sushi is always risky because of fool born illnesses, which now that your pregnant can result in harm to the baby.

You should just avoid it all together.

Most doctors and health care professionals dont advise eating tuna when pregnant due to the mercury levels. Now if you are eating sushi everyday, there could be harm in it but if its once in a blue moon and prepared properly i dont see i problem. I f you are unsure talk to your doctor and they will advise you more accurately.

I dont think that it is OK. Things like Oysters are not a good idea because they have not been cooked and are still in thier raw form. I wouldn't take the chance
