I asked this already but I came out sounding like a total moron. Has Bush's tax cuts, war on terrorism, and crack down on drugs actually improved this country?

Also, I fail to see how the economy is not his fault, considering we had almost a 4 billion dollar budget surplus when clinton was in office.

I'm just frustrated with the news too, I have no clue who to believe anymore.

Economy - Clinton implemented what is called the Pay-As-You-Go system that prevented congress from spending past its means. One of the first things Bush did was to discontinue that system = pretty much immediate overspending and deficits = recession for the middle class.

I honestly can not think of anything Bush has done that has benefited the country.

Also, I don't watch network news anymore. I only watch CSPAN to catch an actualy debate so I know 100% where a policitican's stance is out of his/her own mouth and PBS The Newshour or Frontline. I also avoid any unaccredited news website no matter what party it is affiliated with. Most of the time, I research ACTUAL legislation that I have a question about. That way I am getting the complete story and not being told what pieces should be important by a 2 minute soundbite.

Anyways, you are correct in your logic that something just doesnt make sense to go from a surplus to a deficit... then on top of that to loose so many jobs in such a short period. Sometimes we just gotta go with our common sense.

to claim that current budget deficits are the fault of the sitting president because there was "a surplus when Clinton was in office" is ludicrous

that is like saying that the asian tsunami is your fault because it didn't happen before you were born, and then, some years after you were born, boom

presidents do not control taxation or budgets, that is congress
the president cannot raise or lower taxes

it is difficult to evaluate a president or anyone doing anything because you don't have a control case

you can never know what would have happened had something been done differently

with a different war on terror, we might have had several more september-eleventh scale attacks, or we might not have

the real question in the end is, do you think some other person or some other basic prinicples of operation would have succeeded better, if so, then you should try to support that type of person or philosophy now and in coming elections

Bush has kept us from terrorist attacks for a half a decade. I wish the next president as much luck. 'His' tax cuts lifted us out of the recession of 2000 much more quickly than normal. Whatever the 'crack down on drugs' is, I'm not sure. No president can stop pimply faced teenagers from buying drugs. And the surplus of the 90's was from businesses reaping the benifits of extra money for research and hiring (AKA tax cuts for the rich). Clinton really had little to do with it except being soundly defeated when he tried to raise taxes in '93.

You should be frustrated, both sides will bombard you with mud hoping to elicit some emotion. Turn the TV off, live life like it should be and see just how lucky and well off you really are. Be careful though, if you're too successful, somebody will claim that you somehow cheated, or your success is at the cost of some poor person's lifeline.

Where did you get this info on Clinton having a 4 billion dollar budget surplus? Because i defentaly don't believe you. The tax cuts saved my family. Ever since 9-11, the airplane business declined and then started to rise again but not where it used to be. My father supported our household of 6 by driving a semi that hauled jet fuel. If it wasn't for those tax cuts, i probably wouldn't be going to college but rather working to help my dad pay back the debt. Thanks Bush. I have felt pretty safe since 9-11 haven't you? I mean the war on terror must be working since we have not been attacked yet.

ummm.. All I can think of is that we haven't been hit again.. That's seriously it....

chuckie411- I agree that the economy failed because of 9/11. I think he let it get out of control by waiting too long to cut taxes. After 9/11 the country was automatically more united for a long time. I don't give him credit for that. He took us to Iraq and that's what divided us, that's where we're at. That and the rest of the world seems to hate us more than ever. So I stick with my original comment.

Tax cuts have resulted in an 'unexpected surge in income tax receipts'. Of course conservatives expected this.

I was not aware we had 'cracked down on drugs'.

The so called surplus was 'projected' over 10 years before all the programs Clinton propose to 'spend' it on.

He has done nothing. There is no one that can think of three things that Bush has done to benefit the people in this Country realistically.

I don't believe that you can put all the blame for the economy on Bush. The economy tanked after September 11 and that was not his fault.

I am not a Bush fan overall, but I think he was a strong leader who kept the country together after the terrorist attacks. It was so important for us to be strong in those days.

Resident Bush HAS done one good thing, while in office!!!! ~ He has completely eliminated the National Guard, as a means to escape Combat Duty, as was the case, when he was in the military!!!!
