Is zinc hydrophilic? Also, would this contribute to the surface tension of liquids placed on a zinc surface? Thanks for the help; I couldn't find a source for the information.

nearly all metal ions are hydrophilic, replacing the H+ in water making Metal-OH. When Zn is placed in acidic solution you are left with Zn(CB) where CB is the conjugate base of the acid.

Metal atoms have no charge or distribution therefore they will ionize with any interaction to water.

Also took a small sample of Zinc metal and tried to dissolve it into solution, more soluble in water than an oil.

Zinc ion is hydrophilic, but I am not sure how it would contribute to surface tension.
