Is it easy to do it yourself? It makes the rear end look awesome in my opinion , altho I'm sure there are some drawbacks ( dirt/rocks getting kicked up onto the body?).

It depends on the bike you have. My 2002 R1 had a fender that just unbolted from the tail. All I needed to do was take it off, put on a mount for a license plate and install some flush mount lights on the underside of the tail. It took about 2 hours total. If your bike doesn't have an easily removable fender, you will need to cut the old one off. Most fender eliminator kits will give you very detailed instructions on where to cut. I've found that the best (cleanest) cuts can be made by heating a knife blade with a torch and actually "melting" through the plastic. Just take your time and it will look great! Prices range from $50 to about $200 depending on type of bike and brand of kit. Look on the net to find one that you like. Good luck!

If you're mechanically inclined enough to take off your fender, it shouldn't be a problem installing the kit yourself. You'll need a hacksaw blade to do some cutting. Cost a little over $100. Maybe think about installing a "tire hugger".

Look on E-Bay. I paid about $45 for mine.
Super easy to install and looks very clean.
