Does it get better by itself if you just leave it alone?

I'm 24 weeks and I have heartburn every single evening for some reason!!!

I've stopped eating spicy foods and I've tried taking antacids (like Tums) but they make me feel nauseous, as does drinking milk.

I'm just trying to put up with it, but I don't know what else to do. I'm always scared its going to make me throw up. Will it sort itself it out and go away without taking anything?

I lived on Tums & Rolaids. I also made sure my stomach had something in it at all times, especially before going to bed!

Ask your OG/GYN this question. I am sure there are other things you can do.

I had moderate heartburn with my first pregnancy. If I remember correctly it started at about the time of my second trimester. But, with my second pregnancy... Whoa Nelly! I was eating a bottle of tums a week , I think! It started at about the same time and got progressively worse until delivery. My OB/GYN said that it was because I "carried" my babies differently. My boy was very low and my girl (the second) was very high. The more the baby presses on your actual stomach, the more heartburn you are likely to have. (And as for the heartburn/baby having hair myth is concerned, both of my kids had lots of hair. Lol.)

I get heartburn/acid reflux at least 3 times a day.
First off I try feeding it with a small snack. If it doesn't go away or comes back soon after, I take a couple rolaids.
For the REALLY bad spells it's maalox.

There's not much to do except try different methods to take care of it as much as you can. For me feeding my heartburn seems to be the best option, as I seem to get it more frequently when some time has passed since I last ate.
Best of luck!!

Me too, I lived on Tums because they only contain calcium which is safe for both you and the baby. The heartburn stayed until the baby was born. When I get heartburn at work, I will drink some cold water and that does relieve the burning. You could try that.

You can ask your doctor. You might be eating too closely to the time when you lay down, or you may be eating meals that are too big.

Remember your stomach runs out of room the farther along you get, and laying down can cause the fluids inside to press against the valve and result in heartburn.

Its most likely something that will end after your pregnancy, if it doesnt get better as the baby grows, which is doubtful since it just keeps taking up more and more room.

I agree with the papaya enzymes. They're natural and they taste good. And, No!! Having heartburn does not mean the baby will have alot of hair. That's an old wives tale.

It will probably only get worse, and this is very common among pregnant women. Around my 9th mo, my doc finally put me on metoclopramide, which is for severe acid indegestion. Take care of this ASAP. With my second son, I only gained 11 pounds bc the heartburn was so severe I could'nt even keep water down and I am already thin, so this was not good for my baby at all, who was born 20 days early, and only weighed 6# 1oz.. Good luck to you.

My doctor recommended Maalox. I didn't take it fearing the baby's health but boy was my heartburn bad! It did go away when the eight pounds was no longer pressing on my internal organs (had the baby) and things returned to normal. Try to stay sitting up, prop up in bed.

i had VERY bad heartburn in my pregnancy. i thought i was having a heart attack the first time..it hurt that bad.

sounds kinda gross but i would drink a diet coke (carbonation)and burp like crazy...that was the only thing that got rid of it.

good luck...and see a doctor if this doesn't help. :-)

Oh boy......I had such bad heartburn with my daughter. I tried milk....it gave me heartburn! I absolutely hate antacids. They way they taste and how they are chalky....but I had to take them I hurt so bad. I barely chewed them up and swallowed them, washed down with a little bit of water. They have a new Rolaids chewable, I haven't tried those yet though. Good Luck
