Fabricated and Induced Illness (Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy)
In FII a caregiver, usually the mother, feigns or induces an illness in another person, usually her or his child, to gain attention and sympathy as the "worried" parent. Although MSbP cases with feigned or induced physical illness receive the most attention, it is also possible in parents who emotionally abuse their child, then claim psychiatric and/or genetic problems.

It looked like some kind of cleaner. I think the mother in the movie has Munchhausen's Syndrome by Proxy. That's when the parent (in almost all cases the mother) makes their child sick on purpose, or makes up symptoms in their child, because they like the attention THEY get from being the parent of an ill child. At least that's what I think was going on.

i believe it was pine sol or some sort of cleaning product.
she did it because she was the step mother, and she wanted to start a new family w/ her new husband. she was probably jealous because the daughters were pretty and young and blond. she must have been slightly crazy and controlling, and would do whatever it took to make her husband give her all the attention. she was starting to make the younger one sick too, it has to be mostly because she didn't love the two girls as her own. strange and sickening... poor mischa barton's character! hahaha

Arsenic, and I think it was her step-mother. She was jealous. Thought the father was paying more attention to the girls than to her. The girl was scared for her little sister also.

I'm not positive that she used arsenic but it's highly likely.
