OK, here's the deal. I work for a financial advisor right now and I've only been here for about 4 months. I feel like I'm at that point in my life where I should have established a career by now (I'm 22). Here's my problem. As much as I enjoy working there, I don't feel like it's my job path, you know? So I've been doing some thinking and I feel like I'm really drawn towards make-up and beauty, things like that. I like looking my best, but I also enjoy helping others look and feel their best. However, I don't really know how much of a plausable career that would be, you know? I mean, I know I could go to school and become a make-up artist, things like that, but would it really be money making? I know you should enjoy what you do and money shouldn't be an issue, but lets face it, in this day and age it kinda is. I'm wondering if there are make-up artists out there that could give me some insight? Thanks!

you can make LOTS of money as a makeup artist, but it is HARD work and takes a while before you make the good money. You definately should get a license either cosmetology or esthetician.

Then once you are done with school practice on anyone who will let you. Get a variety and TAKE PICTURES!! Get a really good portfolio and target agencies and the places that will pay like magazines.

I know some that make $10,000 for one person for special events like the Oscars and Grammys. It can be done, but it won't happen overnight.

Good luck. I love Makeup too!

my mom is a makeup artist and she loves it and she is veery good at it and she just started to learn not even a year. but first you have to know you are intrested because some of the best beauty schools are expensive, but yes you can charge at least 120 dollars and if people like what you do. you can go far. and well my mom is 38 and she works a lot with make up.. and for you at a young age you can land many job opportunities if you are talented at what you do

Why don't you take cosmetology courses at night while you keep your day job? You can take courses 4 hours a night. Then go on to take a makeup course.
