I need to know more information about SSI?

I was told that if I have a child that has a disabilty in learning, I would be entitled for SSI. How do I go about getting SSI?

Be very careful with this. I have a child with a disablity (Down Syndrome) who has been receiving SSI since he was born. Just this week I was notified that his SSI was being stopped because my DH was making more than the allowable amount (he is currently in the Army Nat. Guard serving in Iraq). I had to take 6 months worth of pay stubs, last year's tax return, etc to my local Social Security office to get it straightened out (which I'm still waiting to hear about).
The best thing to do is contact your local Social Security office and make an appointment with an SSI Representative, he/she will be able to get you on the right path.

Call the 800 telephone number, and they should be able to give you a number for the closest office to you, and tell them you want to talk to someone about SSI benefits .
