The essentials of academic excellence are:
1) doing all the assignments, doing them on time, and doing them to the best of your ability.
2) scoring well on quizzes and tests and projects
3) being a helpful team-member in all collaborative projects... without hogging the show
4) Always being the person in class that the teacher knows will do what you say when you say you will do it (dependability)
5) Learning that the more you learn, the more there is to learn... not feeling smug about your abilities.

Have a goal, be disciplined, question everything and enjoy learning. The myth that universities are out to indoctrinate the naive is quickly dashed when you enter one and are encouraged to challenge. A student who cannot challenge cannot achieve academic excellence.

Studying regularly, paying attention in class, getting along with classmates, the teacher having a good impression of you, being curious about the subject, etc.
Basically, whatever Captain America would tell you if you asked him the question....

Apply yourself fully,do nothing half-assed.Make sure you are involved with curriculum that truly interests you.Don't be shy about utilizing the resources available to you.Try to find a way to apply your unique talents and tastes to your course of study(long term success is dependent upon satisfaction with what you do!).Don't procrastinate when it comes to projects or assignments, but DO take time to blow off steam (but not to excess!).
Above all else.....PAY ATTENTION!
