Excessive black residue can be caused by materials or temp or
technique(odors fumes have any kind in area you are working?).

Are you sure you've got a good bead? Any local friends/instructors with more experience to come look?

It's possible that the pickup tube in the bottle is broke off inside. Defective bottle. See if your supplier will exchange it. Good luck.

Need to either adjust your gas flow or check the filler metal your using.

check to make sure u have your settings on your torch are rite
