Did it embarrass you enough that you quit talking to your animal?

I think it's beneficial to talk to your animals like they're a person and can understand you, unless you overanthromorphize them like people who dress thier dogs up in little outfits and raise their paw to make them 'wave goodbye.'

I work out of my house and have 26 animals as "pets" (2 dogs, 2 ferrets, 1 guinea pig, 1 pig, and 20 breeding rabbits+babies). I talk to them just like they can understand me, and sometimes you'd think that they do. I know that my neighbors do the same with their critters, so I am not the rotten apple out of this neighborhood!
I do however get some really wierd looks when I go to the pet store and start talking to the critters there! :P

I not only talk to my pets I treat them as if they were my children.
No I don't go so far as to dress them up but I will scold them for not doing what they are told. Every pet I have ever had has been treated like family and always will be.There is nothing harmful about talking to your animals (or plants for that matter), it is actually beneficial to both of you to do this.
It helps your pets to know that they are loved and appreciated and at the same time it helps you to relieve stress.

Sure I've been caught - but it's not embarrassing. I've always talked to my dogs as opposed to giving them commands. Not a one of them was not able to pick out the words they know out of a complete sentence. (I would, however, draw the line at dressing up a dog, or talking baby talk.)

I never have been told I was crazy but I talk to my dogs all the time and they seem to understand. I can sat on my porch and say, "Come here Zoe" and she will walk out of her dog house and come to me. Then we will sat on the porch, I will give her a snack and I will talk to her. I don't see anything crazy about it and if someone told me I was I would tell them to mind there own business.

While she was alive, I cannot recall being called crazy by anyone who heard me talking to my dog...but, I have had some strange looks being caught talking to her 'spirit' sensing her presence...I still tell her that I love her....and, listen for the happy thumping of her tail against her favorite cushion as always...

Pet people all talk to their critters. Non-pet people wouldn't understand. No embarrassment at all.
