Sunsets would be warm and citrus-like... like a warmed creamsicle.

It would sound calming... like the waves lapping the shore... slow, melodious.

And it would feel like comfort... a warming sensation, tingling and pouring over your body.

Interesting question. I did a program for recovering addicts called Capture the Magic, it was all about creativity for people who thought they had none. One of the questions was"what is red?" The answers went from sunrise, sunset, to blood and rage. They then were asked to write a short paragraph, some revealing and often scary mind sets.

Here in Baja by the ocean it sounds like the end notes of a Mariachi song. Some times it feels sad, another day gone in our short lives. Peace

My sunset would taste like an A &W rootbeer float. Delicious, cool flavors washing down your throat. It would sound like the soft notes from a Jamacan steel drum and feel like the warmth of a cup of marshmallow cocoa after a day of shoveling snow.

Yea, Synesthesia is what you are touching on, as already noted. I have a few different forms of synesthesia, one of the strongest being color associations with sound as well as letters and numbers.
For me a sunset would taste like a eating rainbow sorbet with peaches on Ecstacy. It sounds like a deep multi variable resonance. Very rich and multi tonal, tones changing with the different colors. It feels like a dream of rolling shimmering cotton candy. That was fun!

As in a dream -
A smooth texture of warm marsh-mellow, with hints of charcoal, honey, watermelon, and tamarind. It would sound like the tidal waters receding off the rocky coast of Maine coupled with the slowly fading crackle and hiss associated with the burning of a midnight camp fire. It would feel like the warmth of open door to the ski lodge after ten runs down a black diamond trail, the instant heat gratifying your front while your backside still feels the chill of what remains behind.

Wow Mithra. One of your best questions yet.

Taste: creamy orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream when it's just starting to melt. With a slight hint of raspberry and watermelon and strawberry flavors.

Sound: A low hum of a lullaby. Maybe a slight choir singing with all kinds of different bells ringing but very softly ringing in the background.

Feel: A slight electrical tingling on the skin combined with warm breeze like in the evening time in the summertime.

the term for actual cross sensory experiences (which are rare) AND cross sensory metaphors and similies (which are much more common) is synaesthesia. I do this exercise with my writing students all the time. I ask them what their favorite song smells like or what their favorite color sounds like. As for your question (an excellent one; may I borrow it for my classes?), in Long Beach, CA the sunset tastes like sweet and sour soup. It sounds like a cow bell, and it feels like really old, dried, but unfired, red clay.
