opening and closing their mouths is ok actually. it is when they become listless that a problem is arising. they start to just float around and kind of just sit there without moving much. they can also start to float on their sides and closer to the top of the tank.

one of your fish may have brought in some sort of virus that infected the other fish...like fin rot or something similar. i believe it is treatable with certain chemicals. take a sample of water to a pet store and have them test it for you.

when they open and close their mouth it's how they breathe. And have you been giving the tank full water changes? if you havnt do that right now! Or maybe the tempature isnt quite right 4 the fish.

It means they are gasping for air. If they are in bowls, thats why there dying. Bowls arnt good for fish at all!!! Look for signs of distress, frayed fins, discoloration, odd behavior, etc. Dont just let your fish die, reaserch diseases. Also, if you dont cycle your tank befor you put them in, they could die too. Here's a website:http://www.aquariumfish.net/information/recommended_treatment.htm good luck with ur fish!

I have experienced killing my own fish in accident. Before he died, we behave like that - open mouth, swimming in no direction weakly, floating....
