I love watching the NASA channel, Science channel, History channel, and anything that has to do with Astronomy! I thought that this was a great new fact to learn about!

A ruling on what to name 2003 UB313 is currently being delayed pending a decision on whether it qualifies as a planet. 2003 UB313's discoverers have confidentially submitted potential names to the IAU, who oversee astronomical naming conventions. Claims that 2003 UB313 has been officially named "Xena" or "Lila" are incorrect; "Xena" is an informal codename used by its discoverers among themselves, and "Lila" is a name in the address of the website where the object was announced, after the newly-born daughter of one of the discoverers. Neither name was submitted to the IAU.

Yes. Well, it's not a planet right now. It is an object that is orbiting our solar system. Actually, X and Pluto have a binary orbit which means they essentially orbit eachother as they orbit around the sun. There is talks about changing the definition of a planet which would also make an asteroid that orbits the sun because it fits the qualifying size for a planet under the new definition.

You are all a little out of date. On Tuesday, August 15, 2006, the Planet Definition Commitee of the International Astronomical Union voted unanimously to add Ceres, Xena and Charon to the list of planets in our solar system, and to allow Pluto to keep it status as a planet. This committee makes its recommendation to the entire IAU next week (August 24th) in Prague, when it will be voted on.

hey, i'm a astro-freak too! anyways, i wish they could name this planet folling the tradition of naming with a roman god/goddes name, or a greek god/goddess name.

i can't wait until the 24th (although it is getting closer to beginning of school)

OMFG, I JUST CHECKED ON WIKIPEDIA, AND THEY SAY XENA might have a chance to be named Persephone/Proserpina! I'm psychic, cause yesterday i post here in Answers, asking ppl if they think Persephone/Proserpina is a good name for Xena!!!!

** Persephone/Proserpina is Pluto's (Hades) wife in mythology

Did you know the shuttle Atlantis is suppose to launch Aug. 27th?
I hope I can watch it live.
