Learn to grill...

Spread out the coals (a good solid layer), soak 'em good with lighter fluid, let it sit for about ten minutes before you fire it up. When the flames die and the coals are gray, toss on some wet mesquite (soaked for about twenty minutes) to get the smokey flavor.

What I have to work well is to take a large coffee can with both ends cut out. Set that on the bottom grill in the Weber. Now if you want to avoid the taste of the lighter fluid you can stuff some newspaper at the bottom of the can and then fill it with charcoal. If you aren't concerned about the taste of the lighter fluid, then fill the can with charcoal, dowse it with the fluid, give a couple of minutes to soak in, and the light it.

Either way, when you go to remove the can, use pliers! Then spread the coals evenly across the bottom to cook.

Make a foot high cylinder out of double wrapped chicken wire to form a chimney. Use wire to hold the ends together.
Lightly wad up 2 sheets of newspaper and place it in the end of one side. Place the cylinder on the grill and top with charcoal.
Light the newspaper and let the coals get white on the outside before spreading out.
You can spend the money to get a commercial made chimney but it's more fun to make one out of things you have around the house or can pick up for under $10.00.

I wouldn't use anything but the webber! We use an electric charcoal starter wand you place under the charcoal. Works great!! Found at tons of stores.

Lazy for choosing to use an elec. starter or quick-flaming coals? Give me a break... I'd much rather have more time with family with 'equally' great tasting grilled meals. Can't believe the answers? Well, believe it. (edited per reply below)

I cannot believe the answers....

1. get good quality grill - Weber is the best (forget SmokyJoe from weber, I'm talking about big grill)

2. get good charcoil, forget Self Lighting Charcoal (it smells baaaad)

3. I don't use use any liquid started (it smells), use wood or if you are lazy electric starter or fuel cubes if you use CHIMNEY STARTER (see below)

4. I recommend WEBER CHIMNEY STARTED, it starts the coal the best, heats it up a lot

check this site for more info http://www.weber.com/bbq/pub/grill/accessory/chargear.aspx

Get a bag of matchlight brand charcoals. They light up really easy. That is what I use when I am camping. Let them get nice and hot for about 15 minutes then cook.
