First, a topic like stem cell research is very touchy. The biggest debate among stem cell research is the source of the stem cells. Putting that aside, I think that many will agree that stem cell research has huge possibilities. The ability to cure or help many debilitating and fatal diseases can arise from this advance in science. The underlying question is do the benefits outweigh the moral implications? For me personally I think that they do. I don't think that we should create embryos just for the purpose of harvesting the stem cells, but what about all of the embryos that just get "thrown away" when couples decide they are done having children? I just think that there is so much potential here to just ignore it.

the research is neither good or bad, it is just research that may or may not discover something useful to people
the controversy over this in the united states revolves around whether it is good or bad to do research using FETAL stem cells (there are other kinds of stem cells for which research is not controversial)
the argument is that a fetus is or could be a human
is research that requires the ending of life of a fetus a good idea
since there is considerable controversy on the subject, it seems very prudent to limit the research that is done using tax money
currently in the US you can do any kind of stem cell research you want, but some fetal stem cell research cannot be funded by money collected as federal taxes
this limitation makes a lot of sense to me

I don't think we have much of a choice; it WE don't explore the possibilities that Stem Cell Research holds for us, SOME ONE- somewhere ELSE- will... And 10 years from now people will be traveling over THERE- to get whatever the medical breakthroughs came out of it. So whether it's good or bad- it's GOING to happen.

It all depends on your point of view of the subject. Personally I think stem cells have great potential in hospitals for example we wouldn't need blood donors or organ donors if we develop our understanding of stem cells. I have only heard of stories in which a serious organ transplant is in need but there is not donors to give that organ of the right blood type or any at all! but not only organ donations but serious infections can be treated with a dose of white blood cells.... like I said it all depends on your point of view.
