My brother called me and told me that when he urinates, he sees blood. He is quite worried. He is scheduled to se his urologist tomorrrow. What causes this? Should he be worried?

I don't want to scare you but a buddy of mine had that symptom just recently and gat diagnosed with lymphatic cancer.

What he has is called hematuria. Alot of it can be caused by things that aren't all that serious. Some medications you're on can cause it, if he had any trauma/blow to the kidney, kidney disease, kidney and bladder stones, infections or blockages of the urinary tract. Exercise can also cause it but that goes away within a day usually.

It could also be something more serious though, but I would tell him not to worry since he's already scheduled to go in and see the urologist.

It could be several things - ranging from a simple bladder or kidney infection to cancer. If he has any pain, he needs to go to the ER tonight and not wait for the urologist tomorrow.
