Do exactly that. Tell them about yourself. Of course, don't tell them about the party you went to last weekend and drank till you passed out! But tell them about what you like to do, the way you work, your views on work, and what you could acheive. Talk to them about your goals.

The answer should depend on at what point the question is asked.
If you are asked right at the beginning of the interview, then legitimate response can have something to do with the professional aspects, such as why you are in this career path, and a bit about how you have gotten to that point. This is not to suggest you repeat the job history in your resume. They already have that. It should be more like your cover letter, but more personal, as in a conversation.
If it comes later in the interview, AFTER you have discussed your experience and qualifications, then you talk about your interests, maybe some family or personal history. Talk abut the things that make you an interesting human being, such as your hobbies and other interests.
At this point of the process, the interviewer not only wants to know if you can do the job. He want to determine if you will make a good fit. Get along with others and be a good coworker.

Well you need to think about your qualities. Write one out it should be about 1 or 2 minutes long. NO MORE. For example:
I am a dependable professional with over 5 yrs of experience in both retail and Mortgage industries. Proven expertise in using communication and leadership skills to teach others and meet company's deadlines. Work well indepently and a part of a team.
Here your telling them a little bit about yourself. Now if you have numbers to throw in there do. For example say you were on a project and you saved you company thousand's of dollars...MENTION that!
Just create a clear impression of value to potential employes.
Good Luck and I hope this helps
P.S. NEVER and I mean NEVER talk about your personal life in an intereview!! That is a BIG NO NO!!! You are selling yourself to this company. They don't need to know anything about your personal life. Because for example I could tell them I'm a single mom. Some may think oh she may call off to much or soemthing stupid.
Also another hard question is, What is your worst quality? Don't tell them negitive things about yourself....Never...remember your selling yourself. Tell them that you have a hard time saying No and you may take to much on your plate but yet you have NEVER missed a deadline! This tells them that you are a hard worker plus it's not really a negitive....it's a smooth answer...

start with your college, what you studied and why.
transition from this to your professional work career and how it helps you achieve your goals.
then speak about how this job in particular helps you reach those goals you set for yourself
then finish with how this will help shape your future the way you planned it.
also throw in some personal activities or sports, things like that

First, keep it to 2 minutes.
1. Introduce yourself
2. Say where you're from and where you grew up
3. Talk a little about your family
4. Talk a little about your passions and interests
5. Then quickly move to your school qualifications and professional experience
6. Talk about what motivates you & what you're good at
7. Talk about what you want to do next
Hope this helps!
